Today is the beginning of a series of videos on ways to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) in music classes. While there are many aspects and questions in terms of how and when to use AI, these videos will focus on sharing what is possible and exploring different innovative applications of this technology.

Writing Lesson Plans
Everyone loves writing lesson plans, right? Well, while it’s crucial to create an engaging curriculum for your classes, the actual process of putting everything on paper can often feel incredibly tedious. Tools like ChatGPT and other large language models (LLMs) can streamline this process—whether you’re brainstorming new ideas or crafting a polished lesson plan for a specific activity.
Prompt Writing
Writing a good prompt is key. The AI will only produce a strong plan if you ask it well. When you need a lesson plan, be sure to include the following in your prompt:
Description of the Learning Activity: Use natural language and provide as much detail as possible.
Grade Level: Specify the target grade level.
Duration: Indicate how long the lesson should be.
Standards: Mention which standards you want addressed. You can ask the AI to align with any state or national standards, and it will provide the relevant codes and details, a huge time saver!
Review the Plan
After the AI generates a lesson plan, take a moment to review the response. How does it align with your vision? AI-generated lesson plans still require human oversight to ensure they are accurate, engaging, and aligned with student needs. If anything is off, you can ask the AI for revisions or make adjustments yourself.
Additional Steps
Beyond the lesson plan, you can also ask AI for extra materials such as:
Test/Quiz questions
Rubrics for assessment
Practice problems
Translation of materials
Conclusion
Integrating AI into your music classroom not only simplifies administrative tasks like lesson planning but also opens up new avenues for creative and personalized teaching. By leveraging these tools, you can quickly generate comprehensive plans, assessments, and supplementary materials tailored to your students' needs.
